How To Write An eBook That You Can Sell To The Hoards: Step 2-Researching the market and determine if it’s a viable market?
How To Write an Ebook That You Can Sell

Using all the ideas that you wrote down in choosing the topic of your eBook the next and the MOST IMPORTANT step is market research.

To make it easier, have an Excel spreadsheet or Word document open and type out the information you find during your research.

You want to make sure there is money there and we also want to make sure the market is not saturated. We want to make sure that people can pay for it and that there is a need for it.

Find other eBooks that have been written on your topics and that are selling in the marketplace. Search your topic on Google. As you come across websites that are selling or giving away eBooks sign up for their newsletters or free information.

Go to Amazon and search their Kindle library. Search for a main keyword for your topic and sort the results by Most Popular. Have a look at the titles and subtitles. Use their research tool that allows you to look closely at virtually any non-fiction book. Look on the sales page of a book you are interested in. Just above the image of the cover you will see the words “Peek Inside”, click on that and you will be able to read the Table of Contents and often a sample chapter from the book. Note down the price of the book both in electronic and hard copy format. How many pages does the book contain? What graphics are used? Are they in color, black and white? What marketing strategies can you see inside of the book? Do they have links inside their book to the author’s web site?

Another place to do your research is a place called ClickBank.com. This is a great place to look at for ideas of what people are buying and what people are selling. Go into ClickBank’s ‘marketplace’ where you will find topics from business, health and fitness, home, family, computer and the Internet to financial planning and wealth building topics. Keep writing down what you find out.

Another site to research is google.com/trends/hottrends and is a great resource for finding out what the trend is now. This is what people are considering top trends in the world as they are searching through Google. Some topics may not at first glance look like it could be applicable, but keep digging, you will be surprised at what hidden gems you can find.

Once you have completed your research and have got familiar with other eBooks that are available on your topic, you might be asking yourself this question “how did those books that I’ve been looking at get published, when the information really isn’t that great?” The answer to that question is “… actually that author sat down at some stage and wrote it. They finished it. They got it done!!!

Once you realize how much better your book will be than most of what you see, you will be inspired to write even more because you will then know that what you have to offer is different and important.

The next aspect after research is finding out if it’s a viable market? If your research has shown you that there is a need for what you know, and people are buying the eBooks already out there, then it is a viable market.

The final aspect in researching the market is to find keywords or specific phrases that people are using in searching for. Using the information you have gathered in your research go to www.adwords.google.com. This tool gives you the opportunity to perform keyword research based upon a topic or initial key word, to see what is associated with that key word and in return to see the results or the number of people searching using that keyword.

Knowing keywords will help you in writing copy with specific key words to increase optimization and search engine ranking and the naming of your eBook.  If there are too many searches in there then that is either too broad a market segment or it is a saturated market. Either way you want to drill down further into a narrower segment to get to an area where there is not as many advertising or presenting information so you reduce the competition and then you can sell successfully within that target market. The more that you can drill down, the greater your opportunity for successfully selling your e Book.
