How To Write An eBook That You Can Sell To The Hoards: Step 4-Defining the Purpose, Finer Details and Core Message of your eBook

How to Write An Ebook That You Can Sell

I can hear you asking “defining the purpose of my eBook, hang on a minute I just want to write it?” There are many reasons why people write eBooks, but you need to be clear on what your reasons are. Once you determine the purpose you will then know what to include in it, how long to make it, what style you write it in and who your reader is.

Let’s look at this in another way! “What do you intend to do with your eBook when you have completed it? Is the purpose of your eBook:
•    To create an income and turn it into passive income. And perhaps sell it on Amazon
•    To be given away for free to potential clients and customers and build an emailing list
•    To establish you as an ‘expert’ in your field
•    To launch your own product
•    To …

How you intend to market your book will also have a bearing on the type of eBook you write. How do you intend to promote and sell it? Will you:
•    Create your own sales page website or through an existing website
•    Sell it on Amazon Kindle or other online eBook marketplace
•    Offer it as a free giveaway to build your own emailing list
•    Distribute it in another way.

Length of your eBook
Almost all writers ask this question “How long should my eBook be”. There is no hard and fast rule as eBook are generally shorter than fiction. As a rough guide usually no less than 30 pages and as long as it takes to convey the information you want to tell. Readers of eBooks are primarily looking for valuable information or a solution to a problem rather than a lot of long-winded book full of superfluous words. If you provide them with what they are looking for then you have achieved your goal; that is providing high quality valuable information that solves their problem.

Real Name or Pen Name
This can be an issue for many writers. Should I use my real name or a pen name? This is a gray area that many writers stumble with and is a personal choice. I use my own name for anything that is related to my business of Bond Global Enterprises. I use a pen name for books that I’ve written on topics that are not business related for example in the topic of organics. The choice is yours to make.

Core Message of Your eBook
The definition of a core message is an angle someone takes in order to target the right audience. It’s where you set yourself apart from your competition. It’s your point of differentiation, your uniqueness where you provide information or solutions to problems that people have in a way that no-one else does. The most successful eBooks are written on a specific issue and solve a problem.

Your core message is akin to a headline in a piece of sales copy. Headlines must do two jobs. The first is catch the full attention of your intended audience and the second is to bring them into your advertisement.

To define your core message of your book ask yourself the following:
•    What is my topic?
•    What problems do people have in this topic?
•    Which one of these problems could I solve?
From this you can create your core message of your eBook and make it a statement:
(Name of eBook) shows_________________ (audience) how to _________________ (the result they get) By _____________    _____________________________ (the actions or process they use to get the result).

Here is an example of a core message statement: Kindle Publishing Secrets shows non-techie authors how to publish their book on Amazon by following a simple and easy 3 step system.

Once you have developed your core message you will see that you have created your focus on what your eBook is going to do and will be a huge help in making it more successful. The more you tell people what you can do for them the more responsive they will be.

The Title of Your eBook
Now that you have created your core message you have actually come up with a winning title for your eBook. It might need a little tweaking but by identifying a specific problem and solution in your eBook title you are getting in synch with your reader’s innermost desires. They finally have found someone who understands them and are so happy to pay you for it. Using the words ‘how to’ in a title helps you create a ‘hook’ that reels your readers in and converts them into customers.
